Background: The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between teachers' work ethics and students' academic engagement with regard to the mediating role of academic hope (case study of chemistry students in middle school in Karbala). Method: This study was a descriptive-correlational study. The statistical population of this study included all chemistry teachers in middle schools in Karbala, Iraq. Considering that the total number of chemistry teachers is estimated to be 385, 102 teachers were selected as the research sample using cluster random sampling. The data collection tool in this study was a researcher-made questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 26 for descriptive statistics and Smart-PLS version 4 for structural equation analysis. Results: The findings showed that teachers' work ethic has an effect on students' academic hope (t=2.16); teachers' work ethic has an effect on students' academic engagement (t=2.008); academic hope has an effect on students' academic engagement (t=2.85). Conclusion: Teachers' work ethic can increase students' academic engagement by affecting academic hope because academic hope has a great impact on students' academic engagement, and these effects occur through increasing motivation, reducing anxiety, improving academic performance, and strengthening participation in the learning process.
