Background: In the process of upbringing, due to the role and human responsibility of parents, they are constantly faced with moral behavior and must constantly make decisions based on ethical principles. Therefore, having moral competence and understanding the processes of ethical behavior are very important. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the relationship between parents' moral competence and personality traits, academic self-handicapping and students' academic avoidance with the mediating role of academic optimism and achievement goals. Method: The present study was a descriptive correlational study. The statistical population of the study was all students in Babol city/Hashemieh district, 4178 people, of which 354 people were selected as a sample through cluster random sampling. Standard questionnaires were used to collect data. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the data obtained. Results: The results showed that parental moral competence is related to neuroticism, extraversion, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness, as well as to students' academic self-handicapping and academic avoidance, and in this relationship, the mediating role of academic optimism and achievement goals was confirmed. Conclusion: Parental moral competence is an essential and fundamental component of parenting that can affect all aspects of life, including personality traits, social relationships, and the child's academic success.
