Background: Organizational laziness is one of the major challenges faced by organizations, which can reduce employee performance and productivity. Islamic Work Ethics (IWE) as a cultural-value factor and organizational virtue as an organizational variable are considered influential on this phenomenon. Accordingly, the present study was conducted with the aim of examining the role of Islamic work ethics in reducing organizational laziness, with the mediating role of organizational virtue.
Method: This research was descriptive-correlational. The statistical population included all managers and teachers of primary (691), lower secondary (516), and upper secondary (470) schools in Nahavand County (total N = 1,677). Stratified random sampling based on Cochran's formula was used, resulting in a sample of 311 participants. Data were collected using standard questionnaires: Islamic Work Ethics (Darvish Yousef, 2001), Organizational Virtue (Cameron et al., 2004), and Organizational Laziness (Taha Hosseini, 2008). The validity and reliability of the instruments were confirmed through confirmatory factor analysis and Cronbach’s alpha. Data were analyzed using path analysis in LISREL software.
Results: Findings indicated that both IWE and organizational virtue had significant negative effects on organizational laziness at the 0.05 level. Additionally, IWE exerted a significant indirect effect on reducing organizational laziness through organizational virtue.
Conclusion: Overall, IWE and organizational virtue explained 40% of the variance in organizational laziness. This underscores the critical role of ethical values and organizational virtues in reducing inefficient behaviors and enhancing effectiveness within educational settings.
