Background: Moral intelligence is one of the dimensions of intelligence that can provide a framework for proper human functioning. Developing moral intelligence is one of the important components of raising a child that can contribute to the individual and social development of children. The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of moral intelligence training on caring thinking and self-compassion among students.
Method: The research method was an experiment with a pretest-posttest design with a control group. The statistical population included all sixth-grade elementary school students in Yazd in the academic year 2023-2024. The sample consisted of 52 sixth grade students who were selected conveniently and randomly assigned to two experimental groups (26 people) and control groups (26 people). The moral intelligence training package, based on Borba's (2005) theory, was implemented in 11 90-minute sessions. To collect data, two questionnaires, the Guided Caring Thinking Questionnaire (2017) and the Neff Self-Compassion Questionnaire (2003), were used. The collected data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance using SPSS version 25 software.
Results: The results of the Mancova test showed that moral intelligence training had a positive and significant effect on improving caring thinking (0.68) and self-compassion (0.52) in sixth grade students at the 0.01 level.
Conclusion: Given that moral intelligence is acquired, in the education system, academic counselors, teachers, and trainers can help promote caring thinking and self-compassion in students by utilizing moral intelligence training.
