Background: Social participation is one of the main components of socio-economic development today, and several factors play a role in its formation. This study aimed to investigate the ethical and social factors affecting citizens' social participation.
Method: The research method was descriptive-correlational and survey-type. The statistical population of the study was all citizens aged 18 to 35 living in Minab city. The sample size was 375 people using the Cochran formula, who were selected using a multi-stage cluster sampling method. The research tool was a questionnaire. The correlation coefficient test and multiple regression were used to analyze the data in the inferential section, according to the research hypotheses.
Results: The results indicate a significant relationship between the independent variables (social trust, social belonging, development of civic ethics, empathy) and the dependent variable (social participation). The results of the regression analysis showed that the effective variables were able to predict the existing changes in the social participation of citizens with a coefficient of determination of 0.452, and among the factors affecting social participation, the variables of the development of civic ethics and empathy had a greater impact on social participation, respectively.
Conclusion: The most important factor in ensuring participation is people's awareness and interest and the rule of ethics in society. As long as people cannot be convinced that with participation, cooperation and assistance, a more prosperous and happy society can be achieved, and as long as the central morality is ignored and the culture of self-centeredness and self-satisfaction cannot be eliminated in society, ensuring people's participation will not be possible.
