Background: Empowering school administrators to deal with ethical issues and strengthening ethical leadership are important challenges for the education system. Lack of ethical literacy can lead to undesirable decision-making. This study aimed to provide a model for improving the ethical literacy of education administrators in Fars provinces.
Method: The present study was a mixed type (qualitative-quantitative). In the qualitative part, the grounded theory method was used to identify the dimensions and components of moral literacy. The statistical population included school principals in Fars province, who were selected purposefully and based on the principle of theoretical saturation. The data collection tool was a semi-structured interview, and the data were analyzed using a three-stage coding method using MAXQDA software. In the quantitative part, a survey method was used to validate the model obtained from the qualitative part. The statistical population was all school principals in Fars province in the academic year 2022, and the sample was selected using a stratified random method. The data collection tool was a researcher-made questionnaire. The data were analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling in SPSS and AMOS software.
Results: In the qualitative part, 5 main dimensions and 18 sub-components were identified. In the quantitative part, the results of confirmatory factor analysis showed that all components had significant factor loadings (more than 0.5) and the model fit indices were at the desired level. Therefore, the proposed model had an acceptable fit.
Conclusion: Developing ethical literacy among principals is key to realizing ethical leadership, educational justice, and moral education of students, and helps improve decision-making and promote human relations in schools.
