Ethical Examination of the Relationship between the Consumption of Cultural and Media Products and the Tendency of Young People to Use Drugs

Background: Ethics in the media is an internal matter and it refers to the set of moral rules and principles that must be followed by the sender of the message because, nowadays, along with family, friends and peers, religion and education, the media can also to play a role in the formation of values. Therefore, the current research has investigated the relationship between the amount of attention paid to ethics in cultural and social media and the tendency of young people to use drugs.
Method: The current research was descriptive and correlational and a survey method was used to collect data. The statistical population of the research included young people aged 20 to 29 living in the two cities of Shiraz, and the total number of these young people was 31,656. The sample size studied in this research is 384 people. For sampling in this research, a multi-stage quota stratified method was used. The data collection tool was a questionnaire. At the end, the collected data was analyzed using the partial least squares method and with the help of Smart PLS software.
Results: Based on the results of the research, the amount of attention to ethics in cultural and social media such as the Internet, television and satellite programs, music, new social networks, computer games are suitable predictor for the degree of tendency to drug use.
Conclusion: The results of the present research showed that the media, due to its inclusive nature among social life institutions and having educational dimensions among teenagers and young people, can play a prominent role in the tendency of young people if they do not pay attention to moral values. to use drugs.
