Background: Dowry in today's society is faced with various practical challenges such as materialism, fraud in marriage, difficulty in payment and collection, as well as the possibility of faltering adherence to the family. Based on this, failure to curb the challenges facing the dowry can bring many adverse consequences for the family institution. The main issue of this article is what are the moral and social challenges of dowry and how can these challenges be prevented in Iran's legal system? Conclusion: The challenges and problems surrounding the dowry issue and the hardships of implementing and demanding dowry by the wife and then the financial inability of the husband to pay his wife's dowry are among the issues of Iranian society. Dowry itself becomes the cause of many divorces, in fact, it is a materialistic view that has replaced love and affection. The consequence of such a view is social and legal challenges, which include: husband's imprisonment, wife's right to imprisonment, bureaucratic process, unfair distribution of dowry and the possibility of cheating on the law in the domain of dowry. The results show that in the context of solving the related challenges, the dowry legal system needs changes in the methods of providing dowry, which two basic solutions are considered; There is an intra-family solution for providing dowry, and the other is extra-family solutions for providing dowry. In the first context, the moral principle of human equality in married relationships should be paid attention to, and in the second context, extra-family solutions for providing dowry, attention should be paid to the establishment and strengthening of institutions such as government financial funds.
