The Relationship between Moral Intelligence and Self-Compassion with Quality of Life in Patients with Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

Background: Multiple sclerosis is one of the most debilitating diseases of the central nervous system, which has chronic process. Clinical manifestations of this disease can also affect their daily activities and, as a result, reduce the quality of life in these people. Thus, considering the importance of quality of life in patients with multiple sclerosis, the present study examines the relationship between moral intelligence and self-compassion with quality of life in people with this disease.
Method: The research method is descriptive-correlational study. The statistical population in this study is patients with multiple sclerosis in Shiraz, 150 of them were selected as sample size with available sampling method. To collect data in this study, the standard questionnaire of moral intelligence, self-compassion scale and quality of life assessment scale were used. Data were recorded using SPSS-21 software. Pearson correlation coefficient and regression test were used for analysis.
Results: The findings of this study showed that moral intelligence and its components andself-compassion and its components have a positive and significant correlation with quality of life in these patients. These two variables are also able to predict the quality of life in these patients.
Conclusion: The results indicate that attention to the components of moral intelligence and self-compassion can play an important role in improving the quality of life in patients with multiple sclerosis. Therefore, the development of programs and therapeutic interventions in these two areas will be of great help to these patients.
