Background: In every job and profession, following ethical norms is a necessity. However, in all jobs, there is a possibility that professionals will deviate from ethical norms and perform their work incorrectly. Among them, some legal jobs are among the high-risk jobs in terms of the possibility of moral harm. Therefore, the aim of this article is to examine the role of ethics in the implementation of legal aid for vulnerable persons in Iranian law.
Conclusion: Legal aid means helping a person in need in judicial proceedings and during the trial process to achieve equality and justice. In Iranian law, this institution has considered legal aid services, especially for vulnerable individuals such as children, women victims of violence, the elderly, and people with disabilities. Despite legal regulations, professional and human ethics play a fundamental role in the quality and effectiveness of these supports; because laws alone do not guarantee justice and their proper implementation requires the observance of ethical values by judges, lawyers, and judicial system employees. Ethics in the implementation of legal aid means observing honesty, impartiality, respect for human dignity, maintaining confidentiality, and compassion for clients. It should be said that the implementation of legal aid by observing ethical principles will improve the quality of legal services, increase public trust in the judicial system, and reduce psychological and social harm to clients, and this is precisely the ultimate goal of the justice system. While ethical principles are somewhat effective in this regard, today we are talking about converting some of the ethical principles governing legal aid into legal rules.
