Mediating Role of Job Engagement in the Relationship of Professional Ethics and Organizational Accountability

Background: In the last decade, most organizations have been working to attract employees who are adept at professional ethics, eager and committed to their job responsibilities and at the same time responsible for achieving the goals and aspirations of the organization as an advantage. The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating role of job engagement in the effect of professional ethics on organizational accountability among employees of Mohaghegh Ardebili University.
Method: The research method is descriptive-correlation. The statistical population of this study consisted of 420 employees of the University of Mohaghegh Ardabili. Based on Morgan's table and using random stratified random sampling method, 200 individuals were selected as the statistical sample for collecting data. To collect data, professional ethics, job engagement and organizational accountability standard questionnaires were used. Their reliability was assessed based on Cronbach's alpha coefficient and validity of research tools with confirmatory factor analysis.
Results: The results showed that professional ethics has a direct positive and significant effect on employee's job engagement (0.67). Professional ethics has a direct positive and significant effect on employee accountability (0.46). The direct effect of job engagement on employee accountability (0.39) is positive and significant. Also, the results indicate the indirect effect of professional ethics on employee accountability by mediating job engagement (0.26).
 Conclusion: According to the results of the research, to meet the challenges of modern organizational life, observance of the principles and standards of professional ethics that keep employees attentive and accountable to the goals and activities of the organization is a fundamental principle.
